Effective October 1, 2022 Marion County Public Health is no longer providing the services below. The new provider for these Marion County services is American Home Finding Association.

• Breastfeeding Peer Counseling
  • WIC Peer Counselors are paraprofessional women, who have successfully breastfed despite barriers and challenges, and are enthusiastic about sharing their breastfeeding experience and knowledge with women of their culture and language. Peer counselors work closely with WIC and healthcare providers to promote breastfeeding in their communities. The use of breastfeeding peer counselors adds value to WIC’s efforts to help women initiate and continue breastfeeding. WIC breastfeeding peer counselors provide a valuable service to their communities, addressing the barriers to breastfeeding by offering breastfeeding education, support, and role modeling.
• Child Care Nurse Consultant
  • Child Care Nurse Consultants (CCNC) are Registered Nurses who provide on-site consultation, training, and technical assistance to early childhood care and education providers. Child care and early education businesses may call or send questions to a CCNC about health and safety policies, health programs, health of personnel, and specific child health or safety issues.
• First Five
  • 1st Five is a public-private partnership bridging primary care and public health services in Iowa. The 1st Five model supports health providers in the earlier detection of social-emotional and developmental delays and family risk-related factors in children birth to years old and coordinates referrals, interventions and follow-up.
• Hawki
  • Hawki is free or low-cost health insurance for the children and teenagers of working Iowa families. Hawki offers two types of plans – a medical and dental plan, and a dental only plan. The monthly cost is based on a family’s size and income – no family pays more than $40 a month and some families pay nothing at all.
• I-Smile Dental Program
  • I-Smile™ is a statewide program that connects Iowans with dental, medical, and community resources to ensure a lifetime of health and wellness.
• Lead Poisoning Prevention
  • Lead poisoning affects 1 in 14 Iowa children. This is four times the national average.
  • Lead poisoning is usually caused by lead-based paint found in homes built before 1960. About 60 percent of homes in Iowa were built before 1960, both in urban and rural areas.
• Maternal & Child/Adolescent Health
  • Maternal and Child/Adolescent Health (MCAH) programs promote the development of local systems of health care for pregnant women, children from birth through age 21 and their families.
• WIC
  • WIC is for pregnant women, women who have recently had a baby, infants, and children up to the age of five years old. Many working families qualify and participate in WIC.
